Faculty
As a faculty member at EAAS, Dr. Hui Wang draws on skills built through her studies on migration, labor markets, and global development. She earned her PhD at the University of Cambridge's Social and Political Science program, where her dissertation was on the costs of migration on the Chinese economy. She studied at the University of Edinburgh to earn her Masters in Economics and then earned her Bachelors of Economics at University of Queen's Belfast. This training makes her capable of both qualitative and quantitative studies.
Dr. Wang has studied and worked in a variety of differing economic and social fields, both at home and abroad. This has led her to positions at the International Organization for Migration in Geneva as well as at the Graduate Institute of Geneva, the Hertie School of Governance, and the Taihe Institute in Berlin, where she remains a Research Fellow. Not only has her work been focused on skilled migration, but it has also been on policy and population policy development which has importance outside of the academic sphere.
Her work has been presented and shared at conferences in Europe and Asia. This has impacted the work of civil servants and governmental organizations as well as influenced how migration and labor mobility is viewed. Society, especially in the modern world, is focused on migration and interconnectivity as a means to solve challenges. As a result, Dr. Wang has moved beyond solely theoretical constructs.
Dr. Wang teaches classes combining sociology and economics at EAAS. She wants students to understand the economic and social forces that, in her words, “shape our world.” With a variety of her international background and research, students gain a well-rounded classroom experience. She wants students to think and respond to the many global issues that create a more critical, demanding world.
